Skin care for pregnancy and breastfeeding

Even when you are pregnant, you can continue to use skin care products, and in fact you should do so, because during pregnancy (and breastfeeding) the skin can be particularly demanding. It may dry more easily or be more greasy than usual and sensitive to inflammation. 

However, there are a few ingredients that should be avoided during pregnancy: products containing retinol, strong acids and strongly perfumed products. You can replace retinol with the herbal anti-aging ingredient bakuchiol or, for example, hyaluronic acid, ginseng extract and fermented bifida lactic acid extract that strengthens the skin's microbiome. 

You can also add a gentle vitamin C product and niacinamide to the routine, as pigment changes may appear on the skin, e.g. melasma. Brightening products, combined with sunscreen that protects the skin from the sun's rays, help keep the skin bright and glowing throughout the pregnancy. Note, however, that during pregnancy it is recommended to avoid repeated use of chemical sunscreens, especially on large areas of the skin - so at least protect the body primarily with clothes and prefer physical sunscreens on large skin areas.

During pregnancy and also breastfeeding, you may want to invest in a simple skin care routine that works. However, remember to calm the skin (e.g. centella), take care of moisturizing the skin, especially at night, protect the skin from the sun (when pregnant, the skin is even more sensitive to pigment changes) and use gentle cleaning products.
