Skincare in autumn: what to consider?

Signs of autumn are already clearly visible, and that is also a sign that it is time to change your skincare routine. Why is that?

As the weather cools down, the humidity also decreases. In winter, indoor humidity can be only 25%, compared to 50-60% in summer. Especially if the heating is high, it keeps the humidity really low. The skin, on the other hand, thrives best in higher humidity, and the moisture in the air directly affects the condition of the skin. When humidity decreases, the skin cannot bind water from the air, and if this is not compensated with moisturizing products, the skin dries out. And dry skin brings discomfort, makes it prone to irritation and itching, and skin lines become more pronounced.

When to change your skincare routine?

How do you know when it is time to change your skincare routine? It is not about a specific date or temperature, because the right timing depends on your skin type and the condition of your skin. But pay attention to these signs:

    • The skin feels tight after washing your face
    • The skin starts to feel tight during the day
    • The sides of the nose and other sensitive areas start to flake
    • Skin lines are more clearly visible
    • The skin surface is rougher

So observe if there are signs that your skin is drier than before. It is better to react quickly to changes because the longer your skin suffers from dryness, the more your skin's protective barrier suffers, and repairing it takes significantly longer. Therefore, it is good to make small changes throughout the year so that your skin always gets what it needs and the skin barrier stays in good condition 💜

What changes to the routine?

Where to start? Do you have to change everything? Rarely, but some changes in techniques and products may be necessary.

1. Everything starts with the cleanser:

A too strong cleansing product makes the skin feel tight after washing. In this case, more moisturizing products need to be added to the skin to compensate for the drying cleanser. The same cleanser might have been perfect in summer, but now the situation is different 😣 So try if you could switch to a more moisturizing and gentle cleanser!

Good options among oil-based cleansers include hwarang' Peony Grinding Cleansing Balm, belif Aqua Bomb Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm, which also works well for simple cleansing. Among water-based cleansers, we recommend About Me Rice Makgeolli Cleansing Foam and Round Lab's Birch Juice Moisturizing Cleanser.

Pro tip: If your skin is not very oily, you can skip cleansing in the mornings and just rinse your face with water.

2. Hydrating toner or essence.

Choose a more nourishing toner/essence that moisturizes, protects, and repairs the skin barrier. Look for products with a thicker texture or milky consistency. Ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, rice, honey, peptides, and ceramides are excellent for autumn and winter.

Super moisturizers include Medicube's Triple Collagen Toner 4.0, Ma:nyo's Panthetoin Essence Toner, and VT Cosmetics' Hydrop Reedle Shot 100 💦

Pro tip: When the skin is very dry, remember to layer the toner. Take only a little product at a time and layer thin layers as needed.

3. Serum that strengthens the skin barrier

When choosing a serum, it is also worth focusing on ingredients that support the skin barrier. Products that combine both hydration and the benefits of active ingredients are the best! Here are our tips for different skin types:

✨ Dry and sensitive skin: [Kaine] Chaga Charging Collagen Serum contains vegan collagen and antioxidant chaga mushroom extract

✨ Aging skin: [K-SECRET] SEOUL 1988 Serum : Retinal Liposome 2% + Black Ginseng, contains a gentler form of vitamin A, retinaldehyde, and black ginseng, which together fight signs of aging.

✨ Skin needing brightness: [VT Cosmetics] Vita-Light Reedle Shot 100 combines reedle technology and brightening antioxidants into a gentle whole.

3. Rich moisturizer

It may be necessary to have different moisturizers for morning and evening, but a properly moisturizing cream is the be-all and end-all when the skin is dry! A thick texture does not necessarily guarantee the best hydration, but it can indicate a higher amount of oils and emollients, which are especially important for rough skin.

Here are our moisturizer tips for different challenges:

💎 Pro tip: Always apply moisturizer to damp skin, either immediately after cleansing or after serum and toner

4. Sheet masks to the rescue!

When the skin is in a bad SOS state, it is best to bring out the sheet masks ☝🏼 At this point, we especially recommend sheet masks that work best at the end of the routine, such as hydrogel masks left on overnight. They provide moisture to the skin and also create a barrier on the skin surface that keeps moisture locked in. Perfect examples of this are MediAnswer's Collagen Masks, Anua's collagen sheet masks, and Eqqualberry's collagen hydrogel sheet masks. You get the best benefit if you can keep them on your face for at least one to three hours until the material becomes translucent.
